JEFFERSON CITY - An anti-computer security group has broken into the web site of the Missouri Sheriff's Association, crashing the site and posting the names, addresses, social security numbers, and passwords of many Missouri law enforcement officials.
It is not clear when the attack took place, but late Saturday night the Missouri Sheriff's site was not reachable online. A group known as "Antisec" is claiming credit for the attack online. The name appears to be derived from the "anti security" focus of the group. A movement by the same name is opposed to the computer security industry.
The group responsible for the attack on the sheriff's association has posted what appears to be the account information taken from the site on an online site where hackers show what they have been able to do. The information shows names, home addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, usernames, passwords, and more. The posting claims the list has more than 7000 names. Many are mid-Missouri law enforcement officers.
